4 Foolproof Tips To Cleanse Your Social Media

When entering into motherhood, it’s more important than ever to have a social media feed that works for you and helps you to feel happy, positive, and motivated.

Motherhood is an ever-changing, ever-evolving journey, so your social media needs to evolve too. What made you feel good before you started trying to conceive, got pregnant, or had a baby, might not be making you feel good today. So we’re sharing our 4 top tips to cleanse and revamp your social media feed.

1. Work out what content feeds your soul and helps build a positive mindset

One thing is for sure, there’s something on social media for everyone. Everyone’s social feed can be a positive place that encourages positivity, creativity, and community. You just have the challenge of working out what content feeds your soul.

Maybe you like seeing women who are in the same stage of motherhood as you, maybe you find that difficult. Maybe you want to see real women and real lives, maybe you like fitness motivation. Maybe you want something else entirely.

So, how do you figure out what content works for you?

Try spending a couple of days making mental notes of what you like on your feed - what makes you feel happy, positive, or motivated. When you see something you like, make a little mental note, then you can start cleansing and building your feed from there…

2. Find and follow some new hashtags that make you feel good

So, you have an idea of what content you want to be seeing, that’s a good place to start! The next step is finding like-minded people, accounts, and even brands who adhere to that. A great way to do that is to check out some hashtags around the topics you love and see who’s posting. You can even follow the hashtag itself for a more diverse feed.

There’s not a special formula that works for everyone, but some of our favorite honest, inspirational, and motivating hashtags to follow are:

On self-love:

  • #selfloveclub

  • #femaleempowerment

  • #loveyourbody

On motherhood:

  • #mumssuppportingmums

  • #thisismamahood

  • #realmotherhood

On pregnancy:

  • #pregnancyproblems

On postpartum:

  • #stretchmarksarebeautiful

  • #thisispostpartum

  • #postpartumjourney

On TTC:

  • #ttcsupport

  • #ttccommunity

3. Don’t be afraid to hit that unfollow button to make your feed your happy place

If something on social media doesn’t make you feel good, then you should hit the unfollow button. It doesn’t mean the brand or person is doing anything bad, but what they are doing isn’t going to work for everyone and that’s ok!

And look, we get it. You can’t just unfollow everything and everyone, especially if you know them in the real world. So that’s why Instagram has the go-to mute option. All you have to do is head over to the profile you want to see less of, click the drop-down arrow on the ‘following’ button, and select ‘mute’ - they’ll never even know you did it!

4. Stick to the cycle above to keep those social feeds fresh

Well done, mama! You have an amazing feed that makes you feel happy, positive, and motivated. Just remember, motherhood is an ever-changing, ever-evolving journey, so your social media needs to evolve too - what works for you today might not work 6 months from now. Don’t be afraid to keep your feeds fresh, exciting, and inspiring by continuing to follow new trends, new people, and new topics!
