Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth With Our 5-Ingredient Vegan Chocolate Mousse

Our Vegan Chocolate Mousse is a team-wide favorite, and it’s one of the recipes that our Baby2Body app members bookmark the most. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re in for a treat because we’re sharing it here today in honor of World Chocolate Day, which happens to be celebrated every July 7th.

Whether you’re vegan or not, this super simple mousse will satisfy any sweet tooth or dessert cravings. We use avocado in place of raw egg to give this dish an unbeatable creaminess. We know it sounds a little questionable, but with the richness of the dark chocolate and added sweetness from the agave nectar, you won’t get any avocado flavor but you will get all of its nutritional goodness. Just one cup of avocado provides around 10 grams of dietary fiber and almost 25% of your daily recommended Vitamin C, alongside a lot of potassium, magnesium, and Vitamin B6.

But let’s talk about the chocolate in this recipe, because it is #worldchocolateday, after all. In particular, this recipe calls for dark chocolate that includes at least 70% cacao, which is one of our top fertility-friendly snacks and pantry staples for motherhood. Dark chocolate with 70% or more cacao has a higher incidence of cocoa solids (which are rich in antioxidants, magnesium, polyphenols, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B4, and C — the list goes on) and a lower incidence of added sugars (which provide no nutritional value). The nutrients found in 70%+ dark chocolate have been linked to boosting moods, promoting relaxation, and even increasing blood flow throughout the body. All of this to say, you don’t have to feel guilty about making and tucking into this mousse recipe.

Are you getting hungry yet? We are, too. Without further ado, here is our famous vegan chocolate mousse recipe…

What you’ll need:

  • 2 ripe avocados

  • 84 g (½ cup) melted dark chocolate

  • 125 mL (½ cup) nut milk of choice

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1-½ TBSP agave nectar

Kitchen supplies:

  • Blender or food processor

  • 4 ramekins or glass jars

How to make it:

  1. Add the dark chocolate, avocados, and vanilla extract to a blender or food processor and blend roughly.

  2. Next, add the nut milk and agave nectar. We recommend starting with 1/3 cup of nut milk and adding 1 TBSP at a time until you reach your desired consistency. You’ll get a thicker mousse with less nut milk. We also recommend starting with 1 TBSP agave nectar and adding more as needed.

  3. Blend all ingredients until you reach desired consistency and sweetness.

  4. Divide the mixture between 4 ramequins or jars and leave to chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.

  5. Add the toppings of your choice and enjoy! We love chia seeds, flaked almonds, fresh berries, and bananas — but you get to be creative with this part.
